Cyclone Goes to Afan Sat 29th to Mon 31st
Hi all
Time to organise a trip to Afan for the May Bank Holiday Weekend (dates above).
I know the Penhydd route will be closed but the Whites, the Wall and the Skyline should keep us busy
So let me know if you are interested so I can book some accommodation.

Hi Graham
Mike & Laura are up for it and a few other guys have voiced their interest, so I shall book some accommodation soon. Anyone else interest let me know so I get enough beds.

Re: Cyclone Goes to Afan Sat 29th to Mon 31st
Hi all
Afan is a go go!!!
I have booked accommodation, but have had to go a bit up market as I struggled to find somewhere for the numbers on a bank holiday weekend as close to Afan Forest as I could get. I hope this is ok for those who have committed. I managed to negotiate a better price for a group booking and the club will give a small subsidy. See link. http://castlehotelneath.rtrk.co.uk/?scid=19441&kw=691889:21121&pub_cr_id=4220909961
They have secure lock up for bikes and secure parking and of cause breakfast is included. There is a bar and resturant for the evening but Neath may offer other choices.
I thought it's best to travel up early Saturday morning as Friday evening journeys to Wales can be a bit of a nightmare.
So I have booked the following for Saturday 29th and Sunday 30th:
Mike & Laura - Double Room £20 pppn
Me & Dan - Double Room £20 pppn
Graham and Lewis - Twin Room £20 pppn
Otick and Adrian (if still interested) - Twin Room £20 pppn
Julia - Single Room £35 pppn
More rooms are available so if you want to join us let me know and I can get the group discount for you.
Will need £15 deposits from you asap.
Martin and Pinky will be camping near the trails so if anyone else also wants to camp for £5 a night let me know and I will get details for you.
Any questions let me know.

Without wanted to hijack anything who's done Brechfa before?
I done the red route there when it first opened I can remember it being quite tough with lots of climbing but with lots of jumpy stuff and huge berms on the way back down
Ive never done the black route there

Can't really afford a weekend away but I shall come and join you guys for some riding on Sunday. Haven't decided whether to set off nice and early Sunday morning or come down Saturday evening and camp overnight. Darren, where is the campsite?

Re: Cyclone Goes to Afan Sat 29th to Mon 31st
I've done the Gorrack (or Gorrick)! trail at Brechfa and it's brilliant. Speedy berms and the hugest scary drop down dip ever! part of the route was closed the both times I did it, so hopefully it is all open now.
I don't mind going up on the Friday - is anyone else whose staying in the hotel thinking of this? I might not necessarily ride on Friday, but just don't like the thought of getting up really early Saturday.
what time and where are you thinking of meeting on Saturday?
Is there anyway we can share transport too. Unfortunately, I can only carry one bike in my car, but could fit in another passenger (if someone took their bike). Obviously we would have to coordinate favoured time for travelling up there.
Caroline - sorry for the delay in getting the deposit to you. Could you e-mail me your address please and I'll send you a cheque.

Re: Cyclone Goes to Afan Sat 29th to Mon 31st
Hi everyone.
Arrangements for the weekend in Afan. I have the following people booked in rooms at http://castlehotelneath.rtrk.co.uk/?scid=19441&kw=691889:21121&pub_cr_id=4220909961.
Mike & Laura - Double Room £20 pppn
Me & Dan - Double Room £20 pppn
Graham and Lewis - Twin Room £20 pppn
Keith and Adrian - Twin Room £20 pppn
Julia - Single Room £35 pppn
Andrew - Single Room £35 pppn
I believe there are a fair few brave soles camping so we should arrange to meet up as I know mobile connections are not always that reliable in that area. We are travelling up Saturday morning so could meet up after lunch at 1 o'clock at the Drop Off Cafe to do The Whites trail.
Depending on the concensus we could do the Brechfa trail suggested by Darren (above) on the Sunday and perhaps The Wall on the Monday morning before heading off home.
Please can I have full payment asap.
My contact number is the Cyclone phone 07972 753325 or my personal mobile if you have the number.

Re: Cyclone Goes to Afan Sat 29th to Mon 31st
Hi everyone.
Is there any more details of timings, meeting places etc for the weekend yet. It's just that I'll need to decide as to whether to take all or part of Friday off, or just travel eraly Sat morning.
Lets hope the lovely weather lasts.

Hi Caroline, Lewis and I are going to ride Cym Carn on Sat on the way there so we will drive to the drop off cafe and may meet you after your ride. If you dont go back to the cafe we will meet you at the hotel.

Re: Cyclone Goes to Afan Sat 29th to Mon 31st
We were going to be staying at http://www.glyncorrwgponds.com/
But I don't think we are going now. Not sure what to do with our bank holiday weekend at the moment, it's all gone up the swanny. I've an appoinment with fracture clinic tomorrow after my off at the weekend.
We may still decide to camp there and do something else with our days...........cry probably!!

The address for the meeting point on Saturday is:
Glyncorrwg Mountain Bike Centre
Glyncorrwg, Port Talbot,
West Glamorgan,
SA13 3EA.
From the East
Take junction 36 off the M4 and head for Maesteg. Just on the outskirts of Maesteg, take the B4282 signposted to Garth, and follow this road under the railway (twice). Go straight on across the lights by Somerfield's, and then up and over the hill at Cymmer. At the crossroads, go straight on towards Glyncorrwg, and onwards up the valley for about 2 miles.
Go past the three fishing ponds on the left and take the turn on the left signposted Caravan Park, and then left again into the car park.

Re: Cyclone Goes to Afan Sat 29th to Mon 31st
Hi Folks.
I was just wondering whether there is anyone who could give me (and gear and bike) a lift to Wales on Saturday (someone staying at the hotel). I don't mind if I ride Afan or Cwn Carn on the Saturday. I would drive to where ever the best place to meet and leave my car.
Don't worry if it's not possible as I can drive myself but it would be good to share petrol.
Unfortunately, I can only get one bike in my car, so can't offer a lift to anyone else (unless it's a person with no bike!)
