Cannock Chase Trip-Saturday 31st January
Hi Guys,
Due to work demands, I am having to drop out of the trip next week and I will look to reschedule it in March. If anyone is keen, I can help with directions.
Afan is definately on next month.

I'm going but I've never been to Cannock Chase. Can anyone else lead this? I'm keen to go but it's always better to know where you are going...

Re: Cannock Chase Trip-Saturday 31st January
Guys, the ride is still on, if you still fancy it. Luckily the Cliub trips don't revolve around Andy's social calendar.
Its easy peazy lemon squeezy to get there, I have stuck a map below. You simply go from the car park across to the bike shop, and thats where the "Follow the Dog" trail starts. If you are luckily enough to bump into some locals, ask them to take you to the MONKEY trail.....this is ace. Jimmer, Jim, ROb and I manage to pursuade someone to show us the way last time we went. I still have the guys email address, if you want me to email him to see if he is around I will.
But beware, there are 2 x visitor centres. The other, much larger one, is about 2/3rds of the way round the follow the dog. I prefer the smaller one shown on the map, becuase:
a) there is a shop, so you can buy a new front wheel if you forget it
b) there is a bike wash
c) bacon rolls are better at this cafe.....plus the girls serving
N.B I take no responsibility of the sexist and discrimanatory comments made above, I can not vouch for the state of mind I was in at this specific time.
This is what the shop looks like:
Directions Here:
Traveling from the South
- Traveling on the M6, leave at junction 12
- Get on to the A5 and aim for the A460 signed for 'Hednesford'
- The A460 leads you into Rugeley, at the roundabout turn left onto the A51
- You will come to a set of traffic lights, here, turn left which leads out of town and will continue
onto the chase.
- Turn left at the junction signed 'swinnerton cycles' then left again to access the car park.
Traveling from the North
- Traveling on the M6, leave at junction 14
- Turn left, and head for the A34 (second roundabout)
- Go over the roundabout and follow the A513 to the roundabout at Staffordshire University
- Turn left onto the A518 to 'weston'
- Turn right at the large set of traffic lights at Weston (A51)
- Follow the A51 untill you get to the twin small roundabouts, and carry on down the A51
- After one roundabout, you will come to a set of traffic lights, here, turn right which leads out of
town and will continue onto the chase.
- Continue over the next roundabout and turn right at the traffic lights
- Turn left at the junction signed 'swinnerton cycles' then left again to access the car park.

Re: Cannock Chase Trip-Saturday 31st January
OK peeps its all sorted.
A nice chap called Nick Rawle (Jim, Jimmer, Rob and I have ridden with him) is going to show you around. And believe me he knows it like the back of his hand.....plus he knows the Monkey Trail and the Monkeys Sister....these are AWESOME...... They traverse down the hill with loads of steps, kickers, switchbacks, it has the lot !!
Someone take a camera !
I have emailed Si, Paul, Martin and Darren with Nicks cell number and also his email address. Someone will have to give him a call (as he is not on email until Sunday) and organise a time to meet.
Remember to tell him you are meeting at the car park where the bike shop is......
Have fun all, you will love it up there.....and remember......you HAVE to take the right fork at the Northshore.....the wooses go to the left !
At 1min 15 its hilarious !!!

Is that the "upgrade" to SPD pedals?
Re: Cannock Chase Trip-Saturday 31st January
Alice Pete and myself hope to be at the cafe at 11.00am,we are going to do one loop of follow the dog, have a bit of lunch, then do a second loop, each loop is about nine miles, its not difficult, so two loops is cool.
