Big Club Trip ~ Coed-Y-Brenin/Ferndale : March 21/22/23

I've just looked at the weather forecast for the weekend , not looking good, shows sleet and snow.

BG - If you're sharing a tent make sure it's tied down

I think we may get a bit of rain but Coed isn't that high so don't think snow will be a problem.*

*(Don't quote me on that though)

Least if its chilly with it we can don full waterproofs and not have boil in the bag when riding.

Could somebody sort me out with some details for this trip?

What is the address of the place?
What is the earliest we can get access?
What time is everybody looking to arrive?
Where are we meeting, if not at the lodge where we're staying?
Are we arriving early on Friday for a days riding?
Are we leaving late on Sunday, after a days worth of riding?

I feel a little in the dark atm!

I'm up for all 3 days of solid riding! If I'm driving that far I may as well make it worth it!

Found the lodge on the map now, just planning a route. How long do you guys reckon it'll take to get there? 4 hours?

Its about 3.5 hours from MK on a good day depending on the traffic, and about 2 if you drive with Nathan

Getting there, leave home early once you are off the Shrewsbury bypass there is about 3 maybe 4 places to over take if you get stuck behind a caravan going slow ( windy forecast so they will be going slow)

Im planning to ride Nant yr Arian on Thursday, staying down by the coast on Thursday night so Ive only got an hours drive to Coed y Brenin.

Ive emailed Ferndale its ok to arrive park up then book in later in the day after riding



I don't want to go too mad Nath your last day visit didn't you do the 3 main trails in one go?

I was thinking about setting off from MK early in the morning, say 6am, and then stopping for coffee on the way. Would be nice to get there nice and early and get some riding in. I've got the time off work, so it would be a shame to waste it

There are a real mixture of rides there at Coed Y Brenin , there is also the Climax trail at Maccynletth which is superb which is doable in 2-3 hours and you may not get to do it otherwise. Its got a bit of a fireroad climb initially but the last downhill will make you grin like a cheshire cat

So, anybody else fancy setting off early? Would like to get there maybe about 10ish and get out and ride.

That trail at Maccynletth sounds a real hoot! Wouldn't fancy doing it alone tho - might fall off and bash me noggin'!

Anyone wanna meet up either in coed or Maccynletth and squeeze in an early ride?

Lil Gav and Fizz are in Wales this week riding at Brecon , so you could give them a bell to see if they'd be up for it. Its a fantastic trail so they'll probably tear your arms off to do it,

I may have said I'm not going but after a last weekend I think I'm mentally/physically prepared. So I'll see you at ferndale sometime in the afternoon... I'm not planning to ride tomorrow, although I might be persuaded to do the hour long technical taster...

I seem to remember there's no mobile reception (on orange) around Coed. So leave me a note if you go out. Simon has got my number.

Excellent weekend. Surprisingly I'm not aching after that. And my feet were dry all weekend. Probably need a new bottom bracket soon.
