Gorrick Autumn Classic - 2
Entered another race this weekend, fun category of the Gorrick Autumn Classic.
Came 28th out of 75, which is 2 places lower than last time out, but there were more riders, so maybe not too bad
Was a bit of a nightmare really, as I couldn't find the venue, so ended up registering with about 10 minutes to spare, so no decent warm up, and no practice lap Started really close to the start, but got stuck behind a guy who couldn't clip in, then he wheel-spun in front of me, so had loadsa peeps go past me.
There's not many places to overtake on that particular track, so I struggled to take many places, and it was dead technical too - even included a couple of almost sheer drops.
Had a good laugh tho, and certainly raced to the best of my ability, so happy with that.
Looking forward to trying again in January. Gonna start training more and trying to improve my lap 2 performance, as that's where I really tail off. Roll on next season!

Oddly enough, my tongue seems to be hanging out - must have been concentrating quite hard

Nice one Steve - you beat me by about 5 minutes mate. Although I did start right at the back (that's my excuse, and I'm sticking to it!)
It certainly was technical.
It certainly was technical.

Re: Gorrick Autumn Classic - 2
Hiya Ross!
Didn't know anyone from these parts went to the Gorrick events.
How did u find it? Thought it could have done with a few more overtaking places, and a stright before the finish so you could sprint for an extra plce, but overall, good fun. Short sharp changes in elevation, and some great singletrack at the start.
Corkscrew was interesting. Didn't want to screw that up as there were too many people watching and waiting for just that! lol
That was only my second race. Deffinatley gonna do more. Do u race regular fella?

Re: Gorrick Autumn Classic - 2
This was my first MTB race. I found pretty much the same as you fella - some pretty ropey sections, and very few oportunities to overtake. After the practice lap, I was thinking I'd be doing well just to get round, but it's amazing what you can do under pressure!
I've got nothing to compare it to, so I had wondered if this was the norm for this type of race, but it sounds like it isn't?
It was good fun though - will definetly be looking to do some more in the near future.

Re: Gorrick Autumn Classic - 2
My 1st race was 4 week previous, the 1st round of the Autumn Classic.
The course there was fairly similar, but without as many steep drops, and no roots sticking out all over the place. There was 2 steep climbs, one of which I ran, as it was quicker.
The 1st round also had lots more wide open sections to overtake on.
I was hoping to do the Gorrick Spring Exodus series, starting on jan27th, but there is no fun category, so would need to be mixing with the big boys, in Open and would probably end up coming close to last. Gotta do 3 laps for that! Started training properly now, so if I do feel upto it in 2 months time, I'll give it a go.
