Re: ski/snowboarding trip
I snowboard, but I have nothing against anyone who choses to ski.
Always up for a trip to the xscape, it is not quite the same as a real mountain, but still a good laugh! Thursday-Sunday evenings are good if you can already ski/snowboard as it is ~£30 for ~4hours I'd guess that a few people might need lessons tho.

Re: ski/snowboarding trip
Right just to get an idea, how many people are interested in a trip to the xscape and can already ski/snowboard and how many people are interested but would need lessons. I would put up a poll for this but it seems I don't have permission to create polls :S.
There has been a suggestion of going to an air bag freestyle session (they set up a big jump with a giant stuntman style airbag on the other side so you can attempt any kind of outlandish maneuver you like). However the next one of those isn't until the beginning of November! I suggest the sno!storm event:-

This takes place the Friday night before the club BBQ.
Please let me know what you think guys!

Re: ski/snowboarding trip
I am going mad cos have been told not to do ANYTHING like ski-ing or mountain biking for another 3 weeks (doctors orders) and am so getting withdrawl symptoms
But definately up for that Friday night before barby.
I don't need lessons but you may need to shoot me up with vallium cos I get a LITTLE bit excited when I go ski-ing cos I love it

Re: ski/snowboarding trip
Have i read the web site right? Can you only use the dome once you've done all the lessons through them? Seems very expensive to start up.
Can't I just bring a sack and slide down on my arse? Lessons or no lessons that's where I'd end up anyway!!

Re: ski/snowboarding trip
In order to use the indoor snow slope you must be able to use the lifts, control your speed/direction and perform controlled linked turns I'm afraid. If you can't do that then you have to learn how to ski/snowboard otherwise they will through you off the slope.
You don't have to learn at the xscape (you can lean elsewhere e.g. the Alps ), but you can't teach someone to ski/snowboard there unless you work there (apparently it is something about insurance). If you want to go tobogganing or tubing down the snow then they do that as well but it is a separate thing and only happens at certain times.

Martin
Have you skied or snow boarded before?
What can you do on skis or snowboard?
I can vouch for some of their instructors, I know someone who is instructing there this summer.
If I have an idea of numbers and what level lessons everyone interested would need, I may be able to get some sort of deal (no promises)
But, I don't think that sliding on your arse is taught but I may join you cos when I fall it is spectacular and worth some sort of scoring system

Re: ski/snowboarding trip
No, I've done neither.
What can I do on ski's or snowboard? Well i think I could make a right fool of myself for a start.
I may be up for a starter lesson (once my ribs are a little less painful).
I like the idea of a scoring system, the more people you take out the higher the score.

Re: ski/snowboarding trip
I can't make thefriday before the bbq working late.
I can ski quite well (can get down most things but lack any finesse)
I would be up for a boarding lesson if anyone else is as Im sure its cheaper if done as a group

Zebardy, if u're going to rec ski/snowboard session after August and want some company let me know.
I'm sure this was a mountain bike forum wasn't it ?..............

Re: ski/snowboarding trip
Right sorry I've been a bit quiet for a while, but work and life seem to have got in the way recently.
I'm thinking of trying to sort out a group session booking (perhaps with a discount). Groups count as 10 or more so I will have to see if we can get enough! I'm proposing the weekend of the 20th of September (I'm open to another time if people can't do that). I'm thinking those who don't require lessons can have a recreational session on the main slope and watch the domino like comedy likely to occur on the learning slope !
I'm also thinking of going down there on Friday the 5th in the evening as there is an event on with live music, slope features free freestyle lessons (time to learn how to jump and ride a rail) with a 5 hour evening pass costing 5 GBP. Let me know is anyone is interested in joining me !
I'll also try and get myself into gear with ideas for a trip out to snow covered mountains in the new year, hopefully I will have some basic ideas we can discuss at the next club night.
As always let me know what you think guys!

Think the 3 was missing there - £35
Good value evening. I'm a bit rusty on the board (4 years off) so I'll give it a miss. Also very very poor. Summer sucks - no overtime!

Re: ski/snowboarding trip
Hi,
right after having spent most of this week traveling all over the place for work i have a few answers to questions from Tuesday night more details etc for all of you. A 1 hour lesson cost £27 and a one hour recreational session costs £21. If 10 or more of us want to go for a recreational (ski or snowboarding session then there is a 20% discount ). Due to work pressures this week I haven't got things really sorted out in time to do the 20th, so I propose the 27th instead. Otherwise can go for October if you want to wait for another pay check. Booking didn't seem like to much of a problem when I rang up, but obviously the sooner the better! Booking is most important for lessons, recreational is far easier ! I'm hoping to have this all nailed down by the end of the BBQ this weekend!
Nath could you make this thread sticky at all?

Re: ski/snowboarding trip
Hi, right the plan is to go skiing snowboarding on Saturday the 27th of September the cost is £27 for a one hour lesson and £21 for no lesson. If you require a lesson then please let me know (you can just reply to this thread) before the end of Friday! I will confirm the exact time once I have sorted out the lessons as I may need to be a little flexible with time depending on numbers. Those wishing for recreational skiing/snowboarding can let me know the sooner the better.
