Hot weather = Lots of riders = Guiding is chaos
All, just a quickie to ask a favour:
Its pretty difficult to lead groups of 15 plus riders around the trails without losing any...but not as hard as trying to get the groups of 15 riders to start with.
So, to make things easier, and to create less faff time when we are ready to do the off, if we gather in a kind of 2 x group formation when we are ready to go, its make sthe start easier. Plus you get to ride with the peeps you wanna ride with.
Also, when we do shoot off in large groups (10 + ) wherever you are keep and eye and an ear out for the guys riding behind you. Its pretty impossible to keep and eye on the whole group, and not lose anyone off the end. So if you notice that the people behind you are no longer there.......just pass it up the line and then the guy at the front can stop.
I know its like leading a huge mountain bike slinky, but its good to get everyone back !
Also, if anybody else wants to / fancies leading the group just let us know, fill your boots....its free.....you may get moaned at, but who cares, its cahracter building stuff......front and centre......ATTEN-SHUN. Aya Aye skipper. Purp !
Thanks

Re: Hot weather = Lots of riders = Guiding is chaos
Can I just say, as a newby, I think you all do a brilliant job of leading groups and waiting for people. You all have the patience of saints especially since I feel I'm holding people up!
You make everyone feel welcome and it's lovely.
If you're worried about loosing people would cheep walky talky's help for leaders and last people? I don't mind buying some and trying them out, or has this been done?

Hi Pinky.
We do have walkie talkies. They sort of work then again they sort of don't.
I know that makes no sense!

No problem.
We shall promote Swampy to speed control officer and arm him with a tazzer.
"It takes a thief to catch a thief" or should that be you have to think like a thief?
Quick someone shoot me before I offend the police element within the club.

Re: Hot weather = Lots of riders = Guiding is chaos
Why not:
- nominate someone/someone volunteers to ride at the back
- The person leading explains to the person at the back the proposed route
- When the leader realises that some people have dropped of the back, he/she waits at the next convenient point, in the knowledge the others will be along soon as they know the route.

Its a case of.....
" OK we're going along the Bridleway, left at the log hop, down into the bowl. Up telegraph hill, and straight up up the short climb. Left along the ridge, down the short hill and right at the bottom. From the bottom, we'll go right, up past the place where Gav broke his collar bone. Down the descent, and then right to the top of the double step. From the double step straight on, up the second sandy climb. At the top, turn right, and down the terchnical roots.........
See my point, that'll be the first 10 mins !!
