Trips abroad... just testing the waters...
Just testing the waters rather than organising anything, but would anyone be interested in a trip abroad this year?
I went with these guys in November last year and just joined in with two groups of 3 and 2:
Ciclo Montana http://www.ciclomontana.com/
Really incredible guided riding in the Spanish Sierra Nevadas - super techie switchback heaven! Anyway, I'm hoping to go back again (maybe with a longer travel bike... but that's another post!). Would probably be looking to go earlier this year as November was a bit chilly. Marco and Jackie are really friendly and put you up in your home, so I'd want to stick with them.
Prices:
Acomm / guiding / breakfast and evening meal / transfer : £395
Flights to Malaga : £150 - 200 ish (once you've included excess baggage and a bike)
Also thinking about a more downhill oriented uplift-y type holiday in the Alps. Not done one before so have no idea about the prices! Open to other suggestions though - Lake Guarda in this month's MBR looks pretty spectacular.
Thoughts? Expressions of interest? Shock? Delight?

Re: Trips abroad... just testing the waters...
Good fun! Ive done spain and the alps. I done the Alps last year had a fantastic time even got to try and keep up with the world down hill champion
Once you have had a few days using the chairlifts for getting up the hills riding uphill just doesn't seem right
I done my Spanish trip in October the temp was just right although it did rain one day to make me feel like I was back in England.
Really tempted to go back to the Alps or Spain

I could be tempted to do the above now I have a longer travel bike.
I like the idea of enjoying very long downhill runs and being lifted back up to get it right I sometimes think how the downhill sections in the woods are so good but wish they were longer

Hey Nath,
I had my eye on a Giant Trance X0 2009 with a big discount, I thought about it for a while then realised it was too good a deal to pass on. For now I'm only using it for weekends away (did a 30mile event in the Lakes last weekend) but the more I ride it and get used to the extra travel the more I love it
Hope you're keepin well Nath

Re: Trips abroad... just testing the waters...
Oooh and X0 as well, nice. I do like the Giant geometry at the mo. Had an Anthem last year, loved it. Stupid quick. the Trance is pretty much THE trail bike over here, espesh as my trails are 2 miles from the Giant HQ for R&D.
Riding my Demo 8 pretty much all the time now.....managed this drop last Sunday. Super chuffed, its been niggling me for a few weeks, but finally grew some and landed it twice. I reckon maybe 10 - 12ft depending on the speed.

Nice drop Nath
Sounds like there's a few that might be interested then. I'll keep you all posted, but drop me an email if you start booking anything.
Very tempted by a Trek Scratch Air 8...!

These people look good too:

Friend of mine is interested too, although he's not ridden mountain bikes for a while. Still, if it's all downhill, how badly can it go?
