Club Ride : Stokenchurch 50km loop Saturday 19th June
What -
A Classic MBR route I found in the 2008 MBR route guide. This classic XC route in the chiltern hills lies between Stokenchurch and Henley on Thames. It has a lovely mix of singletrack, doubletrack, bridleways with long decents, sharp climbs and a lovely pub stop for lunch at the 'The Lamb' at Satwell. I've done this route about four times now and know it well.
When -
Saturday 19th June
Duration-
4-6 hours of riding.
Start / Finish :
arrive 0945 for 1000 start at Cowleaze Wood carpark nr Stokenchurch
Cowleaze Wood Car park
It's about an hour from MK. Stokenchurch is on the M40. I usually go through Alyesbury and Chinoor

Might join you for this, seeings as it starts about 10mins from our house! Got a long day in the Peak District planned for Sunday though, so might not do the whole 50km. Do you have the route to view, so we could plan a possible escape route?
Not sure how well you know the pub you're planning to stop at, but last Thursday I went to the Rising Sun in Highmoor, which is less than a mile away. They are trying to encourage cyclists to come and said next time we could phone ahead and they'd put on some platters for us, so might be a good alternative? Was a really nice pub - big outside space and cozy inside (should it rain, which it definitely will not do!) For some reason we didn't stop at the Lamb, depsite our pub crawl going right near it, so don't know what that's like. Went up a bridleway in the dark instead, which was much more fun after lots of beer!

Thanks for posting the map. Will have a look...
Fizz - we didn't cycle 50k then! It was a work social (there are lots of cyclists at work) so we started from Wallingford and probably did about 20k in total with 6 pubs. Cycling definitely gets easier after a few beers! The pubs seemed to come up faster and faster. Perhaps we should have a Cyclone pub crawl?!

Looked at the map... looks like we might be able to join you for the first part of the ride, as easy enough to loop back.
Just in case anyway else knows the area and doesn't click on your car park link - that car park is not the Christmas Common car park, but I presume you mean us to meet at the one you have pointed to on the link by Cowleaze Wood? Just ran through there a couple of hours ago!

Thanks

Re: Club Ride : Stokenchurch 50km loop Saturday 19th June
Slight change of plan....
Mark P (twowheelboy) and Phil have kindly agreed to lead the ride. They know the route well and will show you this excellent trail. No change to the meeting place (cowleaze wood car park) or time.
I've been suffering from a high temperature since wednesday and it's 50/50 at the moment whether I will do the ride.
Don't forget this is a long loop so bring the usual spare tubes, plenty of snacks and water.
The forecast for tomorrow is sunny intervals with a moderate wind.
Thanks
Simon

Top ride today, very enjoyable, guys thanks. Just a tad over 3 hours riding for 30.5 miles, not bad at all. Easily the best roast beef sandwich I've ever had at the lamb.
Total Ascent - 4225 ft. That last climb was a biggie!
Thanks
Kurt
