Re: Trails at Woburn under threat
I've only been gone a year and its all falling apart.....
Any updates on this story? Are they just destroying the jump park or simply closing off all of the "trails"? I mean how could they police this sort of stuff.....spose it would also mean the end of an "official" club like Cyclone....
"Power to the People"...come on demonstrate !!

Re: Trails at Woburn under threat
You knew this was gonna happen didn't you, and jumped ship!
Well reading from STW it appears they want to close all the trails, although I'm not sure how they would do this as people could still use the ROW's and I'm sure mtbers (not members of this club of course) would just dart off into the trails - how would they stop this happening?
Initially I was sceptical about how true all this was but it does appear to be a possibilty.

Re: Trails at Woburn under threat
Have the club been contacted directly about the issue by the Greensands trust?
Do we have a connection with the CTC that we can use to lend support to any efforts to prevent any such closures or restrictions?

Re: Trails at Woburn under threat
Keith the ranger for Aspley is the Big Cheese with the latest info.
Basically the 20yr Access Agreement is due for renewal, Greensand Trust always thought it was end of August but it was actually signed end of June hence if Beds Council and Bedford Estates can't agree a renewal then all access at Aspley, where the Agreement applies to (so not public access on Bridleways) is stopped for July 1st.
Last I heard (2 weeks ago) is that the 2 parties were still in talks.....

Thanks Helen.
Martin I think I may have to promote you to political secretary
Sit tight guys I'm sure it will just be a storm in a tea cup and not worth worrying over until it happens. If not we shall just have to become very inventive with regards to finding new trails & places to ride.

Re: Trails at Woburn under threat
I did catch up with Keith....
Latest is that it's open till end of September - there are meeting going on in September to try to sort something out
I have said that if Keith needs any grass roots people campaigning (literally grass roots sometimes!) or placards making then let me know and I'll spread the word
Re: Trails at Woburn under threat
Guys - New to all this so apologies if I am being a Noob -
Why would they upgrade the car park if they were planning to shut down the trails - that sounds counter intuitive (although we are talking about a county council here!)?
Hope they dont shut it down - i am starting to enjoy this biking malarky

So.....a little birdy told me they are tearing down the jump park trails.....and have allocated a 300 acre area over at Stockgrove and a budget of 110k to spend on developing it?
Any news?

Re: Trails at Woburn under threat
Just heard of the grapevine that Woburn is safe for another 5 years.
They are still looking to build the trails over at Rushmere as well, so standby for some good fast flowing singletrack and some double diamond freeride stuff.

Re: Trails at Woburn under threat
Here is a copy of the email from Bob Holland
Dear all,
I put in my last note “be in touch in a few days”!, here we are in October.
Politics and management meetings at Rushmere and the potential resolution of biking at Aspley have delayed things.
Aspley woods biking has been almost resolved with the Duke of Bedford – with no changes to cycle access in the woods, and final negotiations with Bedfordshire and Milton Keynes councils should be sorted out in a couple week or so.
With this in mind we do not want Rushmere and Aspley to compete in terms mounting biking but be complementary. We are intending to;
Leave the Aspley downhill and jump management and design (within agreed areas) to the community of bikers at Aspley as we have done in the past, resulting in as now, challenging and innovative jumps and downhill rides. Rushmere will be more orientated to supporting Family Mountain biking, but offering the opportunity to develop skills to a moderate level sufficient to enjoy a visit at Aspley. This would include;
Easy/moderate off road circular routes in Rushmere
Easy /Moderate Downhill and Jump facilities (we are also looking at uphill lifts) in the area we reviewed.
Links for longer distance off road rides from Rushmere to Aspley and Leigton Buzzard and surrounding woods
Areas specifically designed for skills improvement & training.
Trading/Repair
Rider facilities (showers/changing/food/toilets)
Keith and I will be putting together a proposal over the next 4 weeks – we will almost certainly be seeking your input.
Thanks
