FTD + New Monkey trail at Cannonck Sunday now on 23rd May
Any one interested in a visit to Cannock Chase on May 16th to check out the new trail which opend last weekend?
Just a view of one of the fist to ride the new trail:
"What a truly amazing trail the builders have achieved.
Lots of surprises, so fast and technical in places.
We were taken by surprise a few times!!!
The 'original' Monkey trail was great; But what the builders have achieved here blows that away. Bit loose on some turns but it should bed in?!?!?
Short 'Black' runs are cool. Took 3 attempts, but got down them in the end!!
The Monkey Rocks!!! LARGE!!! "
Meet in the usual Forest Centre car park at and leave from outside Swinnerton Cycles at 10.00

Re: FTD + New Monkey trail at Cannonck Sunday now on 23rd May
Rode it wet and dry last time I was there, very lucky with the timing of the downpour while we were in the cafe!
It was really sketchy in places when it was really dry a bit of water made things a bit better

How long do the trails take on average (no fast boys need reply!). We were thinking of meeting about 11 o'clock as we struggle to get up the local woods for 10. Hoping we could catch you on the next round.

Re: FTD + New Monkey trail at Cannonck Sunday now on 23rd May
Follow the Dog is 7 miles and The Monkey Trail is 8 miles. I would think 2 hours to do both with stops to talk about near misses and waiting for me to get up the hills.
Jim may be able to direct us on a short cut to the Monkey first and then do the full loop after. Just a thought. Or we can come and hammer on your windows at 7am!
I did a Singletrack skills course there on Saturday and got to put my new improved skills to the test on the new end section from the top of the chain slapper (now blocked off) back to the carpark on Saturday. Fantastic burmed switchbacks and big rollers...........big FAST rollers.

Caroline,
What ever time you turn up just follow the trail from Swinertons, you are bound to catch me up It took me a lot longer than 2 hours to do both the dog and the monkey the other week.
Re: FTD + New Monkey trail at Cannonck Sunday now on 23rd May
I was abit miffed that the chain slapper was closed but the replacement more than makes up for it
Re: FTD + New Monkey trail at Cannonck Sunday now on 23rd May
Cannock has always been an evolving trail, the chain slapper was way past its sell by date but the trail building never stops and there is even more of the new Monkey trail being built and due to open later on in the year. This is a working forest and these volunteer trail builders are totally committed to improving this ride.
Re: FTD + New Monkey trail at Cannonck Sunday now on 23rd May
Gutted Jim not going to be able to make it now as I tore my gastrocnemius calf muscle last night playing five a side footie . On crutches for 7 days then a slow recovery by the looks of things. Any advice appreciated if anyone has done something similar to help speed up the recovery to get riding again
