Re: Merida Ruthin
Don't forget your climbing legs, as your gonna need them. I'll be there doing the 75 K which shows as 2300m of climbing, which is certainly enough for me
Weather looking promising for Saturday but taking a bit of a turn on Sunday, hopefully it will hold out for later in the afternoon
The organisers are asking everyone travelling from near the foot and mouth infected areas to clean their bikes.

Re: Merida Ruthin
So did everyone enjoy themselves? I heard people were particularly impressed with the firework display on Saturday night.. Unfortunately I didn't get to see or hear it as I was fast asleep at the hotel
Re: Merida Ruthin
Well I can't speak for everybody else, but I thought it seemed bloody hard! 3000m of climbing. I was sooooooooo knackered.

Re: Merida Ruthin
Apparently they changed the course quite a lot but as I havent done it before , i wouldn't know. The weather started out really nice although a bit windy and then got really cold and rainy , particularly on top of the hills

Re: Merida Ruthin
I think I enjoyed it The fireworks were good if you like that sort of thing smegger was very impressed he even joined in with the roung of applause that went round the campsite.
I found the ride hard going Ive had one of them funny cold things for about a week and was lacking energy (I struggled to keep up with simon on the first climb at llandegla the day before) no offence simon
My best bit of the day was first proper big down hill on the grass once I was out of the traffic, the bottom was a bit scary as the brakes had got a bit warm trying to stop myself from ending up in the back of people near the top and they had faded quite a bit and there was a rather large lump that ended up in a lot of air!
Worst bit two of these the really technical decent (I think Fizz had a bit of an off on this one too) The techyness was ok but I cramped up at the wrong point (as if there is a right time to cramp up!) resulting in an exit stage left into the gauze thankfully a soft landing. I'd like to thank the person that unclipped my foot so I could get out from under the bike.
The second bit was a bit of a comedy moment on one of the smaller climbs there were a series of dips full of very sloppy , very smelly wet mud. In hindsight I should of got off and hopped across it but I decided to ride through it I got through 2 or 3 of them ok but then the next one I lost the front wheel SPLAT It was wet it was slimey but it was soft

Re: Merida Ruthin
Another great Merida event with the Sun sending us off from the start line.
Last year I managed the 50K, so this year I moved up to the 75K. I though the hardest part of the course was going to be the hills (and yes there were lots of those!), but no this year it was the Wind. At one point on top of the hills I was blown sideways off my bike luckily a soft landing and not off the side of a mountain. Still no one else was around me at that stage so no public embarrasment for me.
The best bit for the event was chilling out with the rest of the cyclone crew, cheering people on at the finish. One bloke got his deraulieur caught, jumped off his bike and carried it over the finish line, to the a worthy aplause.
It was great to see everyone there from the club, including a few first timers (Laura and Mike).
PS Unofficial time of 4:55

Re: Merida Ruthin
I'm so glad I wasn't the only one to get blown sidewards off my bike.
That hill so so slow going I just sort of gave up (not for the last time during the day either).
Still I learnt a lesson or two on this ride. Mostly that semi slick tyres on
long fast downhill damp grass decents will make your arse muscles work
overtime. Feck feck feck don't you dare touch those brakes !!!
In hindsight I'm sure I enjoyed myself ?
Plenty of road work over the winter and back next year hopefully.
