Roy Pink or Phil Corley??
I need some stuff fitted to my bike, both of these shops are quoting around the same price.
I'd like any comments on the service people have had from these two shops so I can decide who is gonna get me cash.

Re: Roy Pink or Phil Corley??
Personally, I think PC's is a shop with very expensive bikes / components and the service is shit, full of eddjuts who know very little about bikes and all they want to do id sell you a Trek.....bascially.
I would only ever go there unlessa as a very last resort.
Pinks is by far the best shop in the area.
Thats my opinion anyhow.

Tell us what you really think N@th!
2-NIL to Pinks.
After such a panning, I almost don't want to ask if anyone wants to stick up for Corley's, but what the hey, does anyone?

Re: Roy Pink or Phil Corley??
Evans, yes, they didnt even occur to me for some reason!
Andy, I have an XT chainset that I need to install on my Rockhopper so I need the BB faced and the chainset installed. I am sure I could have handled the job myself (bought the tools etc) if the BB facer didnt cost as much as a Halfords full-susser!
Then I figured, if I'm having a shop face the BB, might as well let them install the chainset/cassette/chain at the same time, saves me the job for like a tenner more than just the facing.
The annoying thing is that Wiggle were out of stock on the PC991 Crossstep chain I ordered, so I either have to wait for that (until maybe the middle of July) or cancel it and buy a chain offline (which will be more expensive, if you see what I mean).

Re: Roy Pink or Phil Corley??
Thanks smegger, but £6 P&P kinda kills the good price they have on it!
I'm thinking I could just throw a cheapy Shimano on there, HG53 9-speed chain, for a tenner until my PC991 gets delivered and then keep the cheapy as a spare to use when cleaning the PC991, or maybe even push the boat out and get a HG93 9-speed chain for £18.

Re: Roy Pink or Phil Corley??
Stan, I always sit on the fence.
Evans is OK. but to be fair, unless you get any kind of discount, they are still more expensive.........unless you get Super Soapie Discount that is!
Can really quote on the servicing side, as I have never used them.

Re: Roy Pink or Phil Corley??
I'd have said it's probably a bit of a false economy to get a cheap chain, given the sandy conditions in and around Woburn.
No need to spend an excessive amounts, but with an XT chainset it's worth sticking a decent 'XT-level' chain on.
A lot of online shops do bundles of 3 or 5 chains, that's a worthwhile investment. You can never have too many spare chains!
Just my two-cents!
Tom
Edit: That's the 'temporary' chain that is. Obviously the PC991 isn't a cheap chain!

Re: Roy Pink or Phil Corley??
Tom,
Those sound like wise words.
Looking on the 'bay, Woollyhatshop seem to be VERY cheap for Shimano XT chains, £12 delivered! Too cheap to NOT stick an XT as my 'temporary' chain, so I'll just grab one of those and hope for delivery by Tuesday.
Seeing as not one person has stood up for Corleys yet (even though I understand they do a 10% discount for Cycloners) it looks like Pinkies will get the job.
Which is pretty good news seeing as their quoted turnaround time was FAR quicker than Corleys.

2s up.
Stan, I always run 2 chains. Swap them over every 3 - 4 rides, and the chains and drive train will last a lot longer.

Re: Roy Pink or Phil Corley??
Oh, and for what it's worth - I've been happy enough with Evans. The mechanic seems compentent.
Haven't had a bike serviced there though (I do that myself), I tend to go in when I'm missing a tool (like headsets).
Main advantage for me is that they're open late (8pm I think) and are easy to get to.

Another vote for Pinks.
Whenever I've needed stuff done they are always my choice.

Re: Roy Pink or Phil Corley??
Evans for me. Have my bikes seen to there and never had a problem. The younger guys are a bit full-on but the older fellas (this is all relative-I,m in my 40,s) are spot on. They service all 4 of our bikes and are open late. Never been to Pinks though as I am only 2 mins from the "Dome. Corleys leaves me cold, dont like the idiot feeling I seem to be left with when I speak with their guys. So no real help then!!!

Re: Roy Pink or Phil Corley??
Hi all, new to this forum
Not been to Pinks but I think I'll give them a go based on the good feedback from you guys.
Must agree about Phil C's. I recently bought a bike from them and wasnt pleased with the service.
They were nice as pie until they got my money. Once the monies had changed hands, their attitude changed to mildy sarcastic and not as helpful as they had been 10mins previously.
And,no freebies with an £1100 bike!! Maybe I'm getting old but when I've bought bikes before you always got a freebie...mini pump, grips, tyres etc. Not even a free sticker for the car!!
Slightly sarcastic staff who like to think they know everything. Clichy when it some to certain brands of kit and bike and generally just far too smug for my liking.
i feel better now....
