I only went and passed !!!
Spent a weekend at the Mountain Centre in Afan this weekend. (Its the place that sits below those lovely cabins, at the top of that HELISH climb on The Wall)
It was a 2 day course to qualify for a Mountain Bike Instructors Award Scheme (MIAS) qual. Basically to allow me to 'legally' guide / lead and instruct groups in the UK. MIAS is the only formally recognised qualification for MTB leadership, awarding an NVQ, backed by Reading University.
Managed to gain a Level 2, which means I can cover riders up to an intermediate level.
Course was pretty intense, a high focus on H&S, Risk Assesment, Liability etc, but also looking at leadership and skills. The Sunday was pretty tough, we had to plan a ride and risk asses it using the topography of the map. Then each leader would lead a certain stage.
The rest of the group had to basically act like children, so the entire day you are being assesed, whilst riders dissapear, break bones, get lost etc etc. It was pretty intense!!
But all over now.....thank god !!!
So needless to say this Sunday we must meet at 09:15 so I can give you all a brief on H&S in the woods, what to do and waht not to do etc and how to check your bikes before and after a ride !!
Thinking about it that may actually prevent things like, forgetting your front wheel and cracking frames !!
See ya Sunday. (Please call me Sir from now on)

Re: I only went and passed !!!
Does that mean i have to turn wearing a high vis vest, safety boots and have a valid CSCS card???
Nice one by the way....
How much was it it to do the course? Is it worth some of the other members of the club doing it? What about getting some of us on a First Aid course?

Re: I only went and passed !!!
Jim, I’d guess the club couldn’t afford to send people on a first aid course and a lot of people in the club could probably get their employer to send them on a course.
I did a 4 day first aid course a couple of weeks ago, the only incentive being that I may get the opportunity to perform CPR on you!!!
P.S. Well done Nath.
