Poploc
Hi Peeps
Anyone know anything much about the Poploc's on Rockshock fork.
Question is are they worth the additional money. I used to have something
similar on my rear shock and to be frank it was a bit crap.
Cheers Guys.

Re: Poploc
Gav, I've had 3 of the little critters. First on my SIDs, then on my Reba SLs and Reba Teams.
They are good, very good infact, but I personally think its down to your style of riding. If you climb in lower gears and tend to get out the saddle a lot more than most, then they are good as you can completely lock out the fork with the flick of your thimb. Hey presto no wasted energy bobbing up and down.
If you tend to climb sitting down, granny ring, spinning out, ALA Smegger, then you may not get the benfit of the £100.
Personally the whole, "I use it on twisty singletrack so I can get the power down into and out of the corner" Its bo****x, just set the rebound and compression rifght on your forks and you can still do that !
£100 is the after market price though. But if you are thinking about buyinf rorks with a poplock, then I would for the sake of £40.
Saying that I've just got a new paor of Revaltions for my new frame. and the jury is out as to if I get one or not.

Re: Poploc
Cheers Nath
Excellent info.
What are your Revaltions like as this is the fork I've been looking at.
Would like the adjustable travel thingy !
There appears to be two different types ? Coil/air ? With a very different
price tag ?
Thanks again

Re: Poploc
Ah, I am now a wheel of knowledge on everything Revelation related. I did some serious reading up on the subject. Firstly they got 9/10 in WMB beating the infamous Fox RLCs when looking at All Mountain forks. I have known 3 people with Talas RLCs and they ALL have been back to Fox / Mojo twice. I even had some, but sold them before fitting to my bike as the reviews are shocking. Tyrone said don't touch with a long barge pole, and he knows his shizzle!
The Revs come in two types, the 409 and the 426. The only difference is the 426 comes with external floodgate. this means you can bascially set the point at which the lockout is cancelled off by a bump.
The U Turns allow you to adjust the travel from 130mm - 100mm (air) or 85mm - 130mm (coil) in 10mm increments, simply by twisting a knob on the top of the stanchion.
I bought the U-turn Air. With the 'AIR's' you can set up your positive and negative pressures according to your weight. These weigh in at 3.9Lbs.
The Coil U turns have the same adjustability on the forks regarding the travel but they have a coil for the compression. These are the heaviest of the family at 4.2lb. But these have 45mm of adjustable height.
The Dual Air forks, have standard travel of 130mm or 115mm (changable by internal spacers similar to the old SID's), with no adjustment, again all the adjustment is by + / - air pressure. As there is no U-turn mechanism they are a lot lighter, coming in at 3.75lbs.
I bought the ones you are referring to. The U-Turn Air.......and they come in white. (White is the new black don't you know!) .
So in short, they are the dogs clackers of a fork plus they weigh very little. They have 32mm stanchions, so aint gonna snap on ya. (I consider things like that now!!) and with the air adjustment you have infinite adjustability to get them the way you want.
And the biggest plus point: Anyone can service them for £60 (Thanks Tyrone), instead of having to send them off to MOJO / Tim Fllloooooks for £115 once per year!
Cheapest I found was on CRC. However bought mine in the US from Ebay for £225 delivered. Zero tax or duty! RESULT !!
$2 / £1 ........you'd be silly not to !!

Re: Poploc
I bought these babys last year for 175
http://www.evanscycles.com/product.jsp?style=14035&utm_source=awin&utm_medium=affiliate&utm_campaign=awin&utm_source=awin&utm_medium=affiliate&utm_campaign=awin
I find them to be a good all round fork...
I like the fact that I can adjust the height of the travel as i'm riding along.
So Knarly downhill gets the 120mm treatment, hard climbing I drop it to 85mm and lockit out!!!
But then again it's what you can afford and get on with.

Re: Poploc
Thanks Guys
Good info.
Jim I take it you have the coil version. If your riding Sunday may I
have a little bounce up and down on them and a tinker ?
I was looking at the 85mm to 130mm version. Be good to get the front
end down, being a short arse its very useful.
Nath thanks for the tip about the Fox Talas as I was looking at these
also.
How about the Reba's any good ?
Been a whilst since I looked at new forks so my knowledge is a little rusty.

Rebas rock Gav-I've got two now! One a 29er! So responsible and so stiff a performance fork that can be extended/reduced 80-100mm. U turns work from 85-115mm.

Andy's right, they are really 'responsible'. If you get to the top of a HUGE drop off, a little message says " I DON'T THINK YOU SHOULD ATTEMPT THIS KNARLY MO-DROP. THERE IS A 89% CHANCE OF INJURY "
Also, there is an alarm that goes off, if you are not back and in bed before kerfew!

89% ????? is that all!!!
See you should be learn from Pete and only do it it if there's a 99.99999%
chance of a hospital visit....
Re: Poploc
