Am I going to die??

OK, So I took delivery of this all singing Polar s725x bike specific HRM.

Set the bad boy up (which took nearly as long as my last bike build!)

Thought i would give it a go at spinning at lunch. So went for it to ensure I gave it a good christening!!

My avg HR was 158

My max was 212 !!!!!

Am I going to die?

According to the booklet your max HR is 220 - age = 188.

I've got a polar and have had the same problem, it's due to loose clothing. When you're bombing along make sure your top is not flapping in the wind, this effects the chest strap and gives false readings.
In short, it doesn't look like you're going to die just yet..

220-your age is what you're taught at school! To work out your average MHR, ride up Puke Hill three times, taking your HR each time allowing recovery (!) each time. You're just superfit Nath. Besides if you bring your age into it, you've got no hope son!
