Try A New Route - 10am - Bank Holiday Monday (30th May)
I am planning on riding one of my favourite routes from when I lived in Ampthill on Monday 30th May - who wants to join me?
Route goes from Ampthill to Steppingley, Eversholt, Millbrook and back to Ampthill including roads, singletrack, a water crossing, bridleways and a steep (down)hill. Route is approx. 13 miles long and finishing in Ampthill means there is plenty of choice of pubs! Parking is free in Ampthill Park carpark (turn left into carpark immediately after turning off the A507).
Leave car park at 10am and get back for pub lunch at 1pm-ish
Reply if you are coming!

I think Cyclone checks my calendar first before announcing social rides - as this is another ride I cant make.
If you can do this in a few months then I will join you (alternatively in July I am thinking of a trip to Cannock - if you are about).
Enjoy the ride AND beer!

Hi Claire
Either time is good for me or for a third option we could do a loop in the morning and do it again in the aftenoon!!!

Some nice cross countryriding round that way done quite of the trails when riding from the Windsurfing lake near Liddlington.
Your not going to throw in the track that runs round the perimeter of the test track? Some proper steep bits
I think I know the water crossing more "along" than across
I would come along but away in Wales for the bank holiday

Yes - but only the steep downs not the steep ups! And yes I suppose it is more water-traversing...
If people want I will definitely run it again in summer. Cannock is always good too.

Ride will be leaving at 10am and coming back in time for a pub lunch as I now have other commitments in the afternoon.
Re: Try A New Route - 10am - Bank Holiday Monday (30th May)
I would have liked to come but I am now going to Cannock with an old friend on Sunday and I have a race on Tuesday so it would not be wise! - but thanks for inviting me Claire, see you next weekend.

Madhatter: Yep suitable for anyone - the biggest hill is a down hill :-)
Route is approx 13 miles and is undulating rather then hilly!
AlanS: of course you are welcome. We are leaving from ampthill park carpark (the one just as you turn off the A507 NOT the carpark which is by the football club. It is free to park there. Link to correct car park is here

Re: Try A New Route - 10am - Bank Holiday Monday (30th May)
Excellent ride today so thanks to Claire for leading and to Alan, Dave and Andrew for joining us. Riding up the river was fun.....just about made it to the end without putting the foot down, could have a been a disaster!
A few little short sharp hills snuck their way into the route but it wouldn't be mountain biking without them would it!?
I think I must have scared the rain away because I wearing my waterproofs....only started raining when we walked into the pub.
And we met a strange looking poodle along the way......

Really good fun, thanks Claire. Enjoyed the stream, especially the sandy bit at the end taking me by surprise!
Claire, your jump ride over Ampthill sounded interesting. Perhaps a Thursday night? This week?

Re: Try A New Route - 10am - Bank Holiday Monday (30th May)
Glad you all enjoyed yourselves (and that the rain held off long enough to get back to the pub)!
Will run it again in the summer if enough are interested.
I'll get the route for the 50mile ride sorted as well.
