hi Dave,
you are going to have so many replies to this question ...
However, a bit of dilute car wash brings mine up a treat , and dont forget to oil the chain and bits as needed.

I think the best thing to clean a bike is for someone else todo just mever seems to happen like that
Re: what do you use to clean mtb after use?
Here is my procedure that I carry out after every mtb ride:
• Remove chain and place in large jam jar filled with white spirit, give it a quick shake
• Spray bike with muc off/fenwicks bike cleaner and leave for a few mins
• Clean bike with sponge and bucket of water with cheap car shampoo in
• Hose off bike (low pressure)
• Dry bike using chamy (sp) or similar
• Spray cables etc with GT85
• Apply some wet lube (Finishline normally) to moving parts, jockey wheels, pedals etc
• Spray disc rotors with disc brake cleaner
• Rinse chain under tap and spray with GT85
• A bit later once dry put chain back on bike and lube ready for next ride (White Lightening Epic or Finishline Dry).
Sounds like a lot but takes 15-20 mins and doing this helps eliminate mechanicals out on the trail.
