How about this for a weekend out - 6hr enduro (in teams sounds like fun, but you could go solo)..
15th August - nice warm up for Scotland
big party afterwards..

Re: Brighton Big Dog..
Right so,
Who's interested and we'll start organising teams (unless you want to enter solo...?) this seems like a chilled event..
They have Solo, Pairs and Team of 3 in Male/Female/Mixed options... even one lap only (with tea and cake) - something for everyone.
The race will start midday on Saturday and finish at 6 pm - very civilised
http://www.brightonbigdog.com/
So we could go just for the day, or make a weekend of it - I know some people riding at Friston forest on Sunday if you fancy joining them..

Forgot to say...
Good choice on the prizes Si - those shorts are supposed to retail at a oner... Much better than the freewheel tool he was trying to give me!
I've going to try my hardest to squeeze into them now I know that...

Re: Brighton Big Dog..
I'm sure we got 6 laps in total in, almost managed to squeeze in a 7th! It was a good course with challenging parts, more than a few long climbs :S and a lot of fast single track! I recon with a bit of work we could have made it onto the podium. Just need to work on not touching the breaks as often! Oh and the free beer at the end of the race was a nice touch as well!
Do you think we could organize a similar event at the Woburn Sands woods ... perhaps it might be better to start smaller. How about a FNSS round?
£100 for those shorts ! Almost as impressive as mikes prize for "cycling like a Trojan"!
So glad we stopped for food before heading home, as that traffic jam on the M23 was a nightmare. And all for about 5 guys working on one lane :S.
Anybody fancy doing another 6, 8 or even 12 hour race ?

Re: Brighton Big Dog..
An event up the woods is a really good idea. FNSS are always keen for new venues and would help with organising.
However, Nath spoke to the Greensand Trust about this a couple of years ago and got nowhere. I can’t remember their reasons.
The club could always approach them a gain but I’d imagine the response still stands.
Although don’t they hold running events up there as I’m sure I’ve seen signs up there advertising them?

Re: Brighton Big Dog..
I think the Greensands trust wanted a significant percentage for using the land...?

Re: Brighton Big Dog..
Good work guys you did well by the looks of it.
The Greensand Trust would want a huge cut in the fees, mainly to pay out on insurance as you would be riding on paths that have restricted access if they allowed it. Remember Nath's efforts with the Evans Trailbreak? The majority of routes were on bridleways that have easy access and exit points and were wide enough for mass usuage but would be naff for racing on. He wasn't allowed to use some of the sexier trials we know and love and the route was planned with backing from a national company.
I am going to meet Keith and discuss some issues with him. If there are any opportunities, I will let you know.

Re: Brighton Big Dog..
I suspect alongside the issue of cost for using the land, there would also be issues of finding a location for parking for all of the competitors as well as access to said location.
This has got me thinking tho of what other locations there are for riding in the area and perhaps we should go pay a few of them a visit.
Would be good to do another one of these events, I think we could be in with a good shout of a podium next time.
Well done Mike your new bike really seems to have made a difference. I just could not lose you on that last lap!
Roll on Scotland !
