Re: Easter
I won't be traveling from Hemel as I will be at my brothers a couple nights before easter.
At the moment Im not too keen on traveling the length of Wales to sleep 3 nights in an over crowded campsite .

Re: Easter
Well so,
How about a trip combining the Easter Merida at Builth (27-50-73km options) with a ride at Nant-y-Arian or out of Radnnorshire (wales boader)..
first off, who's around at Easter??

Re: Easter
Pinky and I are hoping to make it, it's looking good at the moment but things do seem to change in our world quite quickly at the moment.
The plan for us is to head over on the Friday, chill, ride on Sunday and head home Monday.
Is the camp site really so crowded it should be avoided??

Re: Easter
Cool - how about a short ride Saturday at Kington (1/2 hour east from Builth, could be on route for those arriving saturday?) OR Nant-y-Arian which has some beautiful sweepy trails you guys will enjoy (and a cafe!) though that's an hour further West near Aberwystwhthth on the coast..
http://www.mbwales.com/en/content/cms/Centres/Nant_yr_Arian/Nant_yr_Arian.aspx
"Nant-yr-Arian forest sits high on the mountains just inland from Aberystwyth, and offers stunning high-level wilderness riding. With trails heading out into the epic scenery of the Cambrian Mountains, this is a fantastic area for those who like their riding rugged. Just be prepared for everything from true mountain climbs to river crossings and technical rocky descents. "

-"secret singletrack of mile after mile of deserted moorlands before heading back for a well earned pint in the real ale renowned town of Kington"
The campsite's not bad if you get a good spot...
"Camping will be available (included in the entry fee) from Friday night through to Monday morning at the Royal Welsh Showground in Builth Wells"

Re: Easter
Arrive on Friday and camping will be ok make sure you spread yourself out though. If things get really busy you will be sharing tent pegs.
Make sure you get up early in the morning to use the crapper, things get a bit busy
No camping or merida for me youth hostel 20 metres from the beach and halfway between Mach and Nant y arian for me over easter, mountain biking or windsurfing I will let the weather decide

Re: Easter
I'm posting this on behalf of Jamie, who's away at the moment and hasn't got internet access....
He wants to do both of this weekends Meridas and is looking to car share. If anyone fancies sharing with Jamie could they call him on 07766 665 802.

Re: Easter
Pinky and I will be there.
We wont be meeting up for the ride on the Saturday, we'll still be unpacking all the stuff she's planning on taking.
I think she's got the packing bug, she's just moved house at last.
See you all there............maybe.

Re: Easter
Well, seems most people are not so keen on a Saturday ride..
Simon has volunteered himself for a 30K pre-merida warm up on Saturday so we are riding out of Kington on the Welsh/English boarder.
Gilwern Dingle Hergest as listed on the roughrides.co.uk website, or the shorter ridge ridge starting from the same place (depandant on weather).
We hope to be in Kington for a 12 o'clock start...
text me if you want to join us...otherwise, see you at the campsite/luxurious B&B option.

Re: Easter
Right after much consideration I've decided to wuss out of doing both the night ride and the day ride (2 X 65km rides in a ~16 hour period :S). I'm going to do just the 65 on the Sunday and plan tag along for the ride Simon is organizing on the Saturday. I'm planning on camping and traveling back on the Monday. If anyone is still looking for a lift share let me know, other wise I'll see you all over there !
Might be an idea to drive over in a group to try and avoid any navigating issues etc.

Re: Easter
Ok,
so see you guys there, lets meet at the clock tower in the west end of the town - 12.00 Apparently it dominates the west end of the place so should be easy to find..

Re: Easter
Results are up! - http://www.mtb-marathon.co.uk/results/results.php#09builths
So are the photos! - http://www.rightplacerighttime.co.uk/events.html
And here is my track for the event. - http://connect.garmin.com/activity/3523373
In case you are wondering my gps pauses whenever I stop, which is why the track says 4 hours 48 but my actual time was 5 hours 50 :S.
I had a great time at the event (even if it did get a bit chilly at night). There was a good atmosphere there and we had great weather. I have a lot of respect for Jamie and Woody who both did the 45km night ride then got up the next day and did the main race!
