anyone here tried cx

does anyone on here do or tried cyclo cross i would love to give it a go but cant find anything in the area to do with it. any info would be great.

There's loads of races on over the winter - the british cycling racing calendar is full of it!

Apparently the races are the same format as the FNSS - 45min+1 lap. One of the girls is using these as training for her cyclocoss season..

There are quite a few going on but they dont tend to be in the MK area, mostly Oxon or oop North around Derby and Leicester, I think they run them on a Saturday usually and its worth ringing them up and checking you can use a Mountain Bike

i bought a cx bike thinking i could just turn up to a local race and just ride. maybe abit of research first would have been better. maybe i will bring it along on a sunday morning and see if it survives the woburn test.

I have obtained the following info from a local rider who used to do CX:

“There's absolutely nothing around here. The problem is you need to join a league and the majority of the leagues are based in South London/Kent, Oxford, Far! East Anglia and South Derbyshire/Midlands.
So you could pick one or two that are within 70 miles, but you'd need to join each league to race.
Basically there are no CX events in Beds/Bucks/Herts.”

"It's all changing, there is now a Central Region. Already there are races in Hemel and Luton for 2008. They've also bought in some of the closer Oxford events, and the Hillingdon circuit will host a few rounds.
You need a day licience (at sign on) though it's worth getting the basic BCF Bronze racing licience if he might do two or more.
You wont need a proper cross bike MTB's are allowed."

they're usually on a Saturday and are usually for an hour like the FNSS, sounds good
