Bike insurance Empty Bike insurance

Post  Tin Tin 2009-07-19, 13:12

When my new bike arrives I almost feel compelled to take out proper bike insurance this time, but having looked at this there are so many conditions to the insurance i.e. even when its inside the car it must be padlocked to a secure part of the car with an approved device, also I would need to put bars on the garage windows and replace all of the locks etc etc. Additionally the best insurance price I can find is around £109/yr, that’s £10 more than my Honda CBR600 costs fully comp to insure

Any advice/recommendations guys?

These guys look pretty good :- http://www.eta.co.uk/insurance/cycle

they cover you fro theft if your bike in a public place and secured by an approved lock to an immovable object or in a building and stolen by forcible or violent entry. I.e. covered if you lock it up or the thief kicks in your garage door. Also covers you while racing etc.

Graham,

Have you enquired about adding it as a named item to your house insurance?

IIRC one bike costs approx. £35 a year for me and that includes cover away from the home.

If you can’t add it to your existing provider may be worth considering changing to a company who will cover the bike. M&S always get good reviews.

Hi G,

I have mine on my home contents as a special addition come sporting goods.

Once claimed for one that was nicked off the roof rack with no problem.

Like Jase's insurance its about £35 extra.
