Potential new member...
Howdy,
I stumbled upon your club whilst doing a Google search for trails in Bedford as, after a 5yr break, I have recently got back on the saddle and been riding on roads and cycle paths. Mainly the Route 51 from Wootton to Sandy and back.
I was thinking about tagging along on your Sunday morning ride at Aspley Guise this coming weekend to see what it, and a non-solo ride are like, but the most adventurous I've previously been on my bike is muddy fields and winding single-track. I wondered if someone could give me the heads-up on what to expect as I've never been there before and don't want to embarrass myself by falling on my rear in the first 10 meters!
In case it makes a difference, my ride is an (almost) standard 2003 Giant XTC 4.

Re: Potential new member...
Welcome Wilco,
You can expect FUN. Also exhaustion and a friendly bunch of riders.
Don't be worried about falling off, we all do it.
It can be rooty, muddy, sandy with some great singletrack and short sharp drops.
We set off riding at 10 and return to the carpark for 11 so you can choose your start time, we then head back to the carpark for 12. We sometimes carry on from there again. Maybe to cafe.
If there's a lot of us out we have 2 groups you can choose between, fast or slow, slows a popular one.
What ever happens we will not leave you behind, so you won't get lost..........or bleed to death on your own.
See you Sunday, you know you want to.

Re: Potential new member...
Thanks for the responses guys, so I guess I'll see you on Sunday.
Just a couple of quick questions:
Just a couple of quick questions:
- How will I know which group you are, and;
- Do you think the slightly-worn Panaracer Trailblazer 2.1s I have on my steed will hold their own on the trail?

Hello Wilko
I have only been a few times with the group, and have great fun.
You will love it .
Can also vouch for the "not leaving you behind" I am always at the end, but never left behind (not for long anyhow ...lol )
Hope you have fun on sunday.

If the bra does not stand out enough my ride is a cannondale prophet with bright red flat peddles.
I'll be in either a red scenic or blue sharan.
Don't worry about tyres some ride with summer tyres all year round in woods.

Re: Potential new member...
Hello all,
sorry to hijack/join this thread but I'm also looking to get into riding the area and myself and a couple I know were planning to come up and ride this Sunday, we'd arranged it before I found out about your club but may be a better way to find our way round if that's ok? I'll be on a lapierre zesty (red) and my friends on marin mount vision,
I'm still in recovery from a severley broken arm after a dirt jump and large lack of talent !!

I'm sure you've had these before but just wanted to say a massive thanks to Martin,Gavin,Woody and everyone else's name I didn't get including the top man on the top fuel and the lovely lady with stories of horse riding accidents! Re: Potential new member...
Hi all, Jackie & I (Kelvin) just wanted to thank everyone who made us "first timers" feel really welcome this morning, particularly Martin, Woody & Gavin.
Jackie was worried about slowing everyone up and wasn't too sure when we arrived but we had an awesome time and both went home knackered and smiling ............
Your friendly welcome and attitude have convinced us both to join your club.
Thanks again
Kelvin and Jackie

Re: Potential new member...
Just want to add my thanks to Martin, Gavin, the other members, and newbies alike, whom I had a chance to speak to and those I didn't (this is starting to feel like an Oscars speech!). Even though my enthusiasm far outweighed my lung capacity and technical ability, I was never made to feel out of place or inadequate (the wife still has that job).
The advice, friendly welcome and banter was more than I expected, so I too shall be filling in a certain form to become a fully paid-up member.
I'm away next weekend, but will see you in two weeks.
Cheers!

Re: Potential new member...
Hi Wilco, Sambo, Kelvin & Jackie. It's so good to see you all enjoyed your first time out with us, just as I did about 2 years ago and that you are becoming members. The membership is good value, given the year's permit and the 10% discount at some of the local bike shops.
The woods were a bit sloppy going today and are not normally quite that gooey. There's also so much more to see
Look forward to seeing you all again soon!
