the frist round is coming up on the 18 Oct 09

The Autumn Classics are a great way to finish your season with a buzz on two of our best race courses; firstly kicking off at Tunnel Hill - Eastside. This side of the Hill was used for the first time at round 5 of the 2009 Spring Series. Although the vehicle entrance and arena are familiar we introduced new trails on the eastern side of the old byway that bisects Tunnel Hill. Expect to see The Whoops again, along with Treacle Tart and Lemon Tart, plus The Trenches. Event two is as ever at Gorrick's spiritual home of Crowthorne Wood, need I say more?
Catarory
Gorrick have taken on board your feedback from past events and have introduced a couple of major changes you need to be aware of compared to last years Autumn races, these are; the announcement of three new categories as listed below, and a change to the race start times which are now inline with those of the Spring Series to enable everyone to be fitted in during the day to hopefully reduce the number of riders on course at a time.

Super Veteran Male: ages 40-49 competing over 4 laps
Senior Veteran Male: ages 60+ competing over 2 laps
Grand Veteran Female: ages 50+ competing over 2 laps
Note: Super Master Male is now aged 30-39 only.
open 16+

Lap lengths are based on time more than distance, so an average rider would lap in 30 minutes, a fast rider in 22 to 24 minutes. This tends to equate to between 4 and 5 miles, sometimes even 6 miles depending on the venue, though it's not scientific as terrain and weather conditions can alter things! All categories race on the same length lap, there are no shortened courses for younger riders.

All blocks of races will be called over the tannoy at 15 minutes, 5 minutes and 1 minute. Riders are responsible for being at the start in time for their race. The start will be by the sounding of a horn within 10 seconds of the starter announcing the race. Female races will start 1 minute after male races. We try to announce each finisher as they pass between the chequered flag boards, but it's down to you to remember how many laps you've completed and when to finish.

Prices shown below are for pre-entry online only. Entry on the day incurs a £2 surcharge. Category changes will be charged at £2 on the day but are free up to the closing date for pre-entries. A new entry form must be completed for each category change.

After a busy summer, our final two XC events of the year are fast approaching. First up is our return to the very popular Tunnel Hill venue at Pirbright, Surrey on SUNDAY 18 OCTOBER. After that we complete the season at Crowthorne Wood, ( swinley forist) the home of Gorrick, on SUNDAY 8 NOVEMBER. Racing starts at 9.30 for the under 16's and Beginners, followed by the over 30's at 10.30 while from 11.30, there are separate races for different abilities. For the Autumn we have added a 4 lap Vets race and a 2 lap Grand Veteran Female category. These races are not a Series, so why not push yourself and give the next category up a go? If you've never raced, it's not too late to give it a go, so why not enter the Beginner or Fun categories? As usual there will be full facilities and a warm welcome.

For added interest the Tunnel Hill trolls will be holding a handicap sprint race in the afternoon at Classic 1 and Berks on Bikes will be holding theirs in the afternoon of Classic 2 which is always good fun. Don't forget you can pre-enter online until the evening of the Tuesday before each event, thereby saving yourself the extra on the day and any queuing - but please remember to bring along your receipt if you do. Otherwise, as with all our events, you can always enter on the day. Full details on www.gorrick.com .

You are strongly advised to practise the course - on race day only from 8.30am - for your own safety as well as the safety of competitors (please note pre-riding of the Enduro course is not allowed). Ride to the start and follow the red & white marker tape, orange arrows, and where applicable footpath crossing signs. This gives you an opportunity to check and practice any technical sections, think about what gears to use, and to see how long a lap is. Ride this at about 70% of your normal race speed to warm-up the muscles and of course not to use up too much energy. When approaching the finish please use the Practice Peel-off route, NOT the race route past the Timing Van. Always allow enough time to get round, you don't want to miss your start. Please be courteous and give way to people already on the course racing.

Now prepare yourself for the race; replace your drinks bottle, remove some clothing as you'll be working harder and getting hot, do a final quick check of the bike.

The following exception applies to the Swinley Enduro where pre-riding of the course is not allowed.

The start
About 20 minutes before the start it's advantageous to perform some warm-up sprints at race pace to get the body and heart rate really fired up. Races are announced over the PA at 15 mins, 5 mins and 1 min. With 10 minutes to go ride to the start line and get into the appropriate group of waiting riders. You are responsible for being on the start line on time. Race times are clearly displayed on the Notice Board and at Race Registration.

Rushmoor arena is a large open grassed area with approx 1 mile of the course inside the arena (excellent for spectators) before disappearing under the bridge into the remainder of the course through the trees.

Of course there are a few hills to keep the lungs and legs working hard, but not too many, so don't worry hence the name Winter Warmer, along with some beautiful single-track through the trees along with some fire roads for rest and a chance to refuel, not forgetting a few technical areas to keep you switched on and alert throughout. The ground drains well, due to its sandy content making it a very ride-able course in all conditions. Something to look forward too.

Entry limited to 400 riders and will be closed when full or 7 Days before the event, entry on the day will be available if a round is not full.

Race entry for both pre-entered and on the day entry will be from 0800Hrs-1000Hrs

4 hour race starts 1000hrs
2 hour race starts 1015hrs
1 hour fun race starts 1030hrs
