Credit Card Fraud

Something interesting happened to me today..

I looked at my credit card statement on-line this morning and noticed that somehow an O2 Pre-pay top up transaction for 30 quid had just gone through. It wasn't me and my Bank sorted it straight away, card cancelled and money refunded.

The card is fairly new and doesn't see much use at all.

Now here's the really interesting bit...... The only use it's really had lately is to buy bike stuff online from the following organisations.

T R E D Z
E V A N S
B E T D - Stoke On Trent

My question is have any of you guys had a similar thing happen after doing business with any of the above?

Now I'm certainly not pointing a finger at any of the above, but the fact that the card seldom gets used does strongly suggest it could be one of them...

Have you used the card on chip and pin at a shop resturant or petrol station?

As my card was cloned at the shell garage in northampton.

Apparantly I was in Malaysia spanking it big time!

Wiggle have had probs like this before. Could be that.

yeah there was a big thing on singletrackworld about a year ago, lots of finger pointing, it might be worth letting wiggle know

Wow, you're right. There are lots of threads about Wiggle and credit card fraud.

Here's an interesting post from the runnersworld forum, although it's old now.

"I work within the card fraud department at a credit card providor and we are in the process of monitoring Wiggle as a potential common point of purchase prior to fraud transactions appearing on your card.

Although there is a chance it could be coincidence, there has recently been an upsurge in the amount of accounts affected with fraud after wiggle has genuinly been used. Fair point, this has happened on occasion with other retailers such as breaches within Paypal etc...but it doesn't mean it couldn't happen with Wiggle too.

If the breach is with Wiggle (and it may not be to be fair to them) it could be from a number of areas, even quite possibly internal.

The fraud transactions usually differ in amount and retailer but we generally tend to see the same ones crop up time and time again, such as Currys, Comet, Stagecoach, Classic Cinemas, O2(UK)ltd, T-mobile, Virgin Mobile/Trains, Tesco etc...(some of these require you to use the CV2 number on the order)"

General advice is if you've used Wiggle, edit your account and change your credit card number that they store to all 8's
