PostSubject: Crazy question?   Fri May 18, 2007 3:10 pm

A bloke at work asked me and to be honest I haven't got a clue. scratch

Would a road wheel - 700c fit a standard MTB fork and frame?

I know/think the 700c wheel is 27" but the tyre has a lower profile so the outer circumference might be the same as a 26" MTB wheel/tyre combi.

Also would the holes drilled at the top of the fork and between the rear stays actually fit road calipers?

Yes - in fact Mavic do a 700c wheel with discs for precisely that reason. Smile

I'm not sure normal brakes would line up though.

Cool.

Presumably this is the same kinda thing:

Reading between the lines the 29'r takes a 700c then?

I guess you could whack a std 700c wheel in a MTB frame and adjust the V brakes to fit. Unless the hole in the bridge of the fornt/rear forks is just for mudgaurds/refelctors then I guess road type cantilever brakes would fit.

How about putting slick tyres on mountain bike wheels. There's a good selection of tyre out there !

It's an option. I guess scratch the idea of going to 700c would be to drastically reduce the rolling width of the tyre/wheel which would reduce wheel weight and tyre size.
