| Decided to spend a tidy little pot of expenses money that I forgot was coming and bought a new frame. A Carver 96er, from the US of A.
A little standard size singlespeed frame has been doing something naughty with a big daddy 29er frame, and hey presto.........a 96er is born.
Ordered in black:

Best of both worlds, little-un at the back for acceleration and traction, big-un up front to soak up the bumps and smooth things out.
Frame is only 3.9lb so should build up around 21lbs.
Plus got some heavier duty stoppers, Hope Mono Minis.
Just got to wait until its delivered now!! (frantically tapping fingers on desk!!) |

| Niiiiiiice.
But Andy B has one similar that he no longer needs. I say similar, it's a Trek but does have the bend in the top tube |

| Nath asked me to post a pic of the final build, he went for gears in the end:

It's good to see there's a reflector on the handlebars.... wouldn't want anyone to miss you.

| All finished..........Ride is awesome, climbs like a normal hardtail, but not too agressive, so its a nice cruising position. Plus soaks up the bumps at the front. New stoppers are awesome, makes the fork look like a banana when you slam the anchors on!!

| Nice ride there Nath! How do you tension the chain on that bad boy? Is it an off-centre BB like your Gary Fisher?
Am sorely tempted to get a singlespeed myself... toying with selling my Kinesis Maxlight (frame, forks) etc, as I never use it now. Quite like the look of the 2006 Kona Unit.
Out of interest.. can you still ride a singlespeed on the road? Or are you spinning like a loon?
You're going to get some odd looks riding that bike though.. "'ere, mate - your bikes got wonky wheels, an' look; no gears. Wierdo."
Whatever next, Biopace chainrings?

You can ride it on the road but you're right, you spin like mad.
Imagine your hardtail in middle chainring and about middle on the cassette, not nice on the road! |

| Gear ratio is usually around 2:1 isn't it?
*goes away to count teeth*
Andy, do you still commute your SS to work?
Tom (think I've been looking at too much bike-porn lately) |

| Yeah normally 32:16 for off road.
People do use SS on the road but with a harder ratio. |

| Yes the gear ratio does make you look like a gimp on the road. But there aren't that many trails that you get left behind by the freaks with gears.
I had a 32:17 on my 29er, to compensate for the higher rolling resistance, but have a 16t (made of dog poo I hasten to add!!). But climbing is soo much easier.
Still the infamous puke hill to conquer though!
The Units are nice, I think Jase was looking at one before he bought his VOODOO.
Come on join the SS massive! _________________ Ride it like you've stolen it......... Litespeed Niota |

| | Yeah I was going to get a Unit as my first SS but they had sold out so I got an Inbred. |
