| Hi Everyone!
I have successfully entered `The Fred` as its called. It is arguably the toughest Sportive of the calendar as it covers over 100 miles in the Lake District. Although the event isn`t until May it sold out just as quick as Spice Girl Tickets!
I am looking for sponsorship as I hope to raise some money for the cause, just completing it you get a medal! Any money will go to The Fred Whitton Charity which is a cancer charity set up by the former Lakes District rider who tragically died from the disease at age 50.
I have started training already as the 112 mile loop takes in Kirkstone, Whinlatter, Wrynose and the 1-in-3 leg breaker Hardknott passes! I hope to do it in under 10 hours. Ha!
Thanks for your support, any sponsorship would be greatly appreciated!
Cheers!

| Hi Big G, I will also be doing the big ride this year. I didn't know whether to be please or disappointed that I got accepted. I'm kacking it, then I thought I'd be pushed and it's for charity.
Let me know if/when you are up for some training rides. |

| Hey Big Gav,
Good luck with the Fred Whitton which I know some other guys have done it and say it's tough. The daddy of all sportives in the UK this year has to be the Gran Fondo Cyrmu 2008, a 200 KM, 4100 Meters of Climbing through some of the toughest of North Wales mountains. See link for more details -> http://www.cyclosport.org/article.aspx?id=144&eventid=11&type=unsecure
Have entered this and the following road events for this year Chiltern Classics (Jan, Feb and March) - 100 KM April - White Horse Challenge - Swindon ( a gentle 150 KM ) May - Gran Fondon Cymru June - Chiltern 100 - Great Missenden 100 miles - organised by our road club and is a very good event - maybe your interested? July - Leg Breaker 130 miles August - free September - Circuit of Kent - 100 miles
Have already starting getting in the steady miles as training for these events and a training plan. I could well die of exhaustion before the end of the season!!!!
Need to remember that I still enjoy MTB'ing and keep some time free for that.
How many miles you up to per week??? |

| Hi Paul,
I was looking at the Chiltern 100. Are places likely to fill up fast as I recall you can sign up from 1st February, but I’d like to leave it later if poss to see how the training is going. Although perhaps if I register that will motivate me to get the long rides in.
Are those Chiltern classics the Reliability rides?
How much training are you doing at the moment? |

| Thanx for all your comments so far! Currently working on a 100 miles p/week; increasing by 10% each week; which will coinside with The Cheshire Cat Sportive (30.3.0 - 97 miles. By this time my long ride will be up to 100 miles and my weekly total will be 184 miles. (This week 125 miles +)
Still spinning Wed/Thur/Fri but making the Thurs night class particularly tough.
My toughest challenge will be in May when I have 4 Sportives consecutive weekends....
My programme is as follows:
30 Mar Cheshire Cat 97m Cheshire/Peaks 11 May Fred Whitton 112m Lake District 18 May Etape Du Dales 110m Yorks Dales 25 May Gran Fondo, Wales 200km Wales 1 June Polka Dot Challenge 100m Peaks 29 June Dave Lloyd Mega Challenge 227km N.Wales 20 July Legbreaker 100m Staffs Aug 10 Devil Ride 110m Mid-Wales Aug 24 Wild Wales Challenge 90m N.Wales 7 Sept Spud Riley Memorial 100m Peaks
The Lakeland Loop is on 13 April but I may be in Majorca training. However the L.L is a good indicator of how fit you are as it is a mini version of the Fred Whitton that does go over Wrynose & Hardknott passes.
Cheers Everyone
