Scott Genius Swingarm Bearing Replacement

I have just been inspecting / cleaning my 2007 Scott Genius and have detected some play in the swingarm pivot bearing, just beneath the rear shock mount.

Has anyone experience of replacing them. Are they easy to replace, or do they need specialist attention?

A friend of mine just had the same problem with his Scott Spark20, simply got some new bearings from his local bike shop (Sherwood Pines) and swapped them over.

I'm hoping mine will be as simple to do.

I've just found out the hard way that a SRAM 970 cassette isn't a high enough spec for the hope pro2 aluminium freehub body.

The mounting of the individual sprockets doesn't give enough support and the sprockets have started to chew away at the freehub body.

The answer - use XT grade cassettes (or equivalent where the sprockets are fully supported so there are no stress points on the freehub body) or the stell freehub body aftermarket option (heavier but more solid than the Alu one).

Hi guys,

Had a build up of white gunk in my Camelbak bladder recently and nearly threw it away. I couldn't seem to scrub it off easily, even using a stiff brush. I usually stick energy drinks in it, PSP22 or GO. As I clean it pretty thoroughly I sent an email to Science in Sport asking them if they had any advice on preventing this in future. Here's the reply:

The bike went into Evans last week to have the rear hose shortened and bled but they also said they'd 'adjust' the front if it needed doing, not sure if they touched it or not.

Anyway, whilst giving the bike a clean and mini service yesterday I noticed that whilst riding up and down my road, if I ...

Hi all!

After snapping my chain twice in one week, I thought I'd ask for some advice...

How often should I be replacing the chain? (last replaced sept last year + I fitted a new cassette)

What is a good replacement?

What lube should I be using around the woods at this time of year? Currently I use GT85 as it's cheap!

After a chain snaps, is it then bin fodder, or can I carry on riding it after I've re-joined it?

I've never snapped chains in the past, but now ...

This is why I usually buy SRAM chains:

Shimano tat. Brand new chain, pin just wouldn't budge, even reversing it out the other way. I should have learnt my lesson last time I tried breaking a Shimano chain and it tore off half of the face of one of the outer links.

Not even a cheap chaintool.

Grr!

Anyone else have these problems?!

Good news is; at least I don't have to decide whether or not to cycle hungover this afternoon. I can't!

A bloke at work asked me and to be honest I haven't got a clue.

Would a road wheel - 700c fit a standard MTB fork and frame?

I know/think the 700c wheel is 27" but the tyre has a lower profile so the outer circumference might be the same as a 26" MTB wheel/tyre combi.

Also would the holes drilled at the top of the fork and between the rear stays actually fit road calipers?

...

The tyre sealant that comes with Hutchinson's tubeless tyre repair kit is actually superglue.

I learnt this after I glued my thumb to my tyre. Fortunately I could still just about pull it away!

What do other people use to seal punctures in tubeless tyres? I'm a bit sceptical about this Hutchinson stuff, as it strikes me that superglue is a bit brittle and might crack when the tyre flexes.

I have a creak which I think is coming from the drive side of the crank when under pressure. It's only recently come on. The BB and the crank came off my old bike and were a bit reluctant to be seperated and had to be persuaded with some wood and a hammer but were quiet when I first fitted them, there's no play. The pedals are brand new.

Any suggestions or typical culprits?

I have an old rigid Spesh Hard Rock Sport that I,ve just bought a new front sus fork for. How difficult is it to change the forks on an older bike? Should i take it to the bike shop and get it done properly or have ago myself? Its an old bike so I wouuld like to try it, even if i get it wrong.

Bottom Bracket Sizing

Guys. I have just purchased a new frame but don't have much info on it except to say that it's brand new (well never used and new enough for disc mounts), 17", unpainted, magnesium alloy, 3lb and is one of the Saracen Kili's.

Anyway... on the build up I'll need to fit a bottom bracket but not having one fitted I'll need to size it. I have a couple old spares in my tool box I could use as a guide but there must be a way of properly measuring this?

Cheers.

Seat Clamp Size

Guys,

My new frame has a 30.4mm outer diameter seat post tube. I need to get a larger clamp. I am looking at the Hope ones on CRC. Trouble is what size?

Do I go for 31.8 and hope that it'll compress down enough to clamp the post or go for one of the other manufacturers who do a 30.0 and hope that I can squeeze it on thus ensuring it will clamp down?

Cheers
